Out Now: The Nothing To See Here Hotel

By author Steven Butler and illustrator Steven Lenton (Simon & Schuster Children’s UK)

Are you a ghost tired of going bump in the night? Perhaps a troll who wants a break from the all the goats trip-trapping over your bridge? Then head for the best holiday destination for magical creatures, and Brighton’s best kept secret, The Nothing to See Here Hotel!

Behind the shabby façade and the reek of brussel sprouts lives Frankie Banister, and his family’s strange hotel and even stranger guests; from Mr Vernon the Stink Demon, to Gladys Potts the werepoodle. The hotel is ‘hidden away’ from human eyes by a mixture of magic and 0-star online reviews, so the guests can be themselves without worry.

Chaos is about to be unleashed however by a very short and very demanding royal goblin guest and his enormous entourage. Throw in a pirate crew, some stolen treasure and great-great-GREAT granny Regurgita Glump, and you have a crazy, fast-paced, fun-filled adventure!

The story zips from one bonkers scenario to another, and the text is peppered with made-up words that somehow…work. The eccentric characters are brilliantly brought to life by Steven Lenton’s black and white illustrations.

With Butler’s hilarious words and Lenton’s imaginative pictures, overall you get a fantastical primary read full of magic, monsters and mayhem, that would be equally amusing shared in class or as a riotous bedtime story.

This was our first stay at The Nothing to See Here Hotel, and I for one can’t wait to check in again!
